Former Atlantic Beach Town council member involved in accident that killed bicyclist

A North Myrtle Beach woman has died after being struck by a vehicle while riding her bicycle in North Myrtle Beach.

Kenneth McLaurin, who was cited in the accident, is a former Atlantic Beach Town Council member.

Lisa Lacroix was struck by the vehicle at 3:05 p.m. Dec. 9 on Highway 17 at 33rd Avenue South, according to the Horry County Coroner’s Office. Lacroix died Dec. 11 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center from multiple traumatic injuries, the coroner’s release said.

It appears Lacroix was crossing Highway 17, when a vehicle driven by Kenneth McLaurin, 80, of Atlantic Beach, failed to yield the right of way and collided with the bicyclist, according to a North Myrtle Beach Police report.

The collision caused Lacroix to be thrown over the handlebars and hit the vehicle’s windshield.

McLaurin told police he was unable to see Lacroix. McLaurin was issued a citation for failure to yield the right of way, the police report said.

McLaurin served on the town council for several years, running for reelection in 2017.
