Former Aurora County deputy facing multiple charges of child pornography, sheriff says

An Aurora County sheriff's deputy has been terminated from his position after he was charged with multiple counts of possession of child pornography, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.

David Suarez was terminated from his position with the office as soon as it was learned he was being investigated, according to the release published on Wednesday by Sheriff Roman Briggs.

"Our officers will strive to maintain the public trust of the communities we serve. The Aurora County Sheriff’s Office will continue to uphold the constitution and laws of the State of South Dakota with integrity and professionalism," Briggs wrote.

Suarez faces up to five counts of possession, manufacture and distribution of child pornography, according to court records filed in Davison County.

The citation was issued June 18, and he was arrested Thursday, according to court documents.

Suarez is scheduled to appear in a Davison County courtroom Thursday afternoon, according to court documents.

If found guilty, Suarez faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine up to $25,000. He will be required to register as a sex offender.
