Former Barrington man indicted on sexual assault charges, more crimes against same victim

Barrington police have investigated a child sex assault case involving Timothy Gagne.

BARRINGTON — A former Barrington man has been indicted by a Strafford County Superior Court grand jury on multiple charges, including four counts of aggravated felonious sexual assault of a minor.

Timothy Robert Gagne, 54, is facing four counts of aggravated felonious sexual assault, all four counts listed as special felony level, each carrying potential prison time of 20 to 40 years.

The charges allege Gagne sexually assaulted a girl between the ages of 13 and 15 and used physical force, physical violence or the use of superior strength against the will of the child.

Gagne was also indicted on a Class B felony charge of criminal mischief, alleging he rammed his car into another, belonging to the victim of his allege sexual assault, causing damage in excess of $1,500. The charge carries a potential 3-1/2- to 7-year prison term.

Gagne is charged with a Class B felony for disseminating private sexual images of the same victim when she was 19.

Both Class B felonies carry a potential 3-1/2- to 7-year prison term.

The indictments are not a conviction. They indicate the grand jury determined there is enough evidence to warrant a trial.

Enough evidence to warrant a trial

Last week, Barrington Police detective Sgt. Amanda Barber said police had reason to suspect more victims might come forward.

Gagne is currently being held on preventative bail, according to Chris Brackett, supervisor at Strafford County House of Corrections.

Last week, Barrington police were granted a felony arrest warrant Aug. 22 for Gagne on charges of aggravated felonious sexual assault, domestic violence, aggravated felonious sexual assault of a physically helpless victim and non-consensual dissemination of sexual images. He was arrested on this warrant by East Kingston police Aug. 27, according to police. Police seized Gagne's electronic devices on a search warrant, including computers, cell phone and storage devices.

Barber asked anyone who may be involved or who has information about Gagne to come forward.

Gagne was arraigned in Strafford County Superior Court on Aug. 30.

At the time of his arrest, Gagne was free on bond for a sexual battery case out of North Carolina and he was out on bail for a criminal trespassing charge from Rochester District Court, according to police. He was living in East Kingston while a protective order barred him from returning to his home in Barrington.

Barber asked anyone with information to call her at 603-312-5780 or email abarber@barrington.nh.gov.

Gagne is being represented by a public defender. The public defender's office did not immediately return calls seeking comment.
