Anyone interested in purchasing a former fire station?

The former Bath Fire Station No. 2, at 70 S. Cleveland-Massillon Road in the Montrose area, which is jointly owned by Bath and Copley, has been put on the market.

Loudan Klein, director of community and economic development in Copley, said the property, which has 0.16 acres of land, is zoned for commercial-general retail and has been appraised at $300,000. It is listed with Thomas Flynn and Brendan Wasilko with CBRE, which has an office in Akron, for $345,000.

"As it sits today, the property is very small and would be best suited for some type of walk-up or drive-thru ice cream or coffee shop," Klein said.

Neither township has a deadline for selling the land, said Vito Sinopoli, Bath administrator and police chief.

"Bath Township has not used the building in many years," Sinopoli said. He added that Copley uses the building on the property for storage.

The old Fire Station No. 2 on Cleveland-Massillon Road was built in 1986, with the new Station No. 2 on Medina Road constructed around 2005.

A cemetery that forms part of the property will be split off from the sale parcel and retained exclusively by Copley Township, Sinopoli said.

The Montrose Cemetery was deeded to both Bath and Copley townships in 1844 by Joseph Hawkins Jr., according to information provided by Copley Township. The oldest legible burial date found is 1811, and the newest 1934.
