BEAVER FALLS — Former Beaver Falls all-conference football player Tyler Cain will have a new home for the 2023 college football season.

Cain, who previously committed to the Naval Academy following a stellar career at Beaver Falls, transferred closer to home to West Virginia University March 10. Cain previously was in the transfer portal after spending the 2022 season at a the Naval Academy Preparatory School (NAPS), which is a prepatory school to to enhance midshipman candidates' moral, mental, and physical foundations to prepare them for success at the U.S. Naval Academy.

Cain, 6-foot-2, 230 pounds, was not on the varsity roster at the Naval Academy last season. Once in the transfer portal, Cain heard from West Virginia and was offered a Priority Walk-on (PWO) spot with the Mountaineers, which he ultimately took.

Prior to committing to West Virginia on March 10, Cain had previously visited Morgantown on two separate occasions. He will be a linebacker at West Virginia under inside linebacker coach Jeff Koontz and Tyler Allen.

The Beaver Falls native told Rivals.com that the main reason for his transfer was the government passing a bill where members of the service academy could no longer go professional and wanted to have the ability to chase his dream. That led him to West Virginia where he will have his shot of proving what he can do.

He will have four full seasons of eligibility left with the Mountaineers.

West Virginia opens the 2023 season on Sept. 2 in Happy Valley against the Penn State Nittany Lions before then returning home on Sept. 9 against Duquesne. The Mountaineers will host Pitt in the latest installment of the Backyard Brawl on Sept 16.
