Former Boyds Bear site to become resort and restaurant, minus the iconic mural

An Adams County tourist landmark is being brought back to life, with a new look, as part of an upcoming resort and restaurant.

"The Barn Resort," expected to open in 2024, will feature a hotel, a camping area, the "Farmhouse Restaurant," a bar, an event venue, and more, according to the website for the upcoming resort.

The new resort is being built at the site of the former Boyds Bear Country Barn, a Gettysburg tourist destination that closed in 2011 after eight years. The 130-acre site, located at 75 Cunningham Road in Cumberland Township, has a 130,000-square-foot barn as the property's centerpiece.

According to a recent Facebook post by the business, the building's iconic Boyd's Bears mural on the barn will be removed as part of the renovations to the building, in order to make room for additional windows for hotel rooms on the upper floors.

"The bear mural has sentimental value to us all, but we think we can offer our hotel guests something they’ll appreciate just as much- splendid views!" the post read.

"The truth is, the bear has to go. While we have the utmost respect for the history of the building, The Barn is being revitalized for different purposes than those for which it was originally built."

The Farmhouse Restaurant is the new, rebranded location of Gettysburg's General Pickett's Buffet, which closed in 2022, and will be operating under new management within the resort property.
