Ex-Catholic star Blue Cain released from Georgia Tech basketball NLI after Josh Pastner fired

Former Knoxville Catholic boys basketball standout Blue Cain has been released from his national letter of intent from Georgia Tech.

He re-opened his recruitment after Georgia Tech fired men’s basketball coach Josh Pastner on Friday. The Yellow Jackets have hired Damon Stoudamire, a former NBA player and NBA assistant coach, as the new coach.

Cain is the No. 87 player and No. 12 shooting guard in the country in the 2023 class, according to the 247 Sports Composite.

The 6-foot-4 shooting guard left Catholic after his junior season to play at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.

As a junior at Catholic, he averaged 19.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.8 steals for the Irish in 2021-22. In that season, he helped lead Catholic to the Division II-AA state championship game and was named to the all-state tournament team. That season he played with current University of Tennessee freshman B.J. Edwards.

Cain was the only signee in the 2023 class for Georgia Tech. Prior to signing, he had Power 5 offers from Tennessee, Syracuse and South Carolina.
