Former chair of Morristown Housing Authority gets pretrial intervention in theft case

The former Morristown Housing Authority chair and executive director will never be able to hold public employment again after she entered pretrial intervention following a theft charge.

Maureen Denman was arrested in October and charged with fraudulent use of a credit card and theft of movable property.

On Dec. 5, Denman waived her right to indictment before Morris County Superior Court Judge Claudia Jones.

According to the plea paperwork, Denman admitted to using a credit card belonging to the Morristown Housing Authority between Feb. 1 and April 6.

The affidavit of probable cause said Denman made 97 ATM withdrawals between February and April, totaling $24,860. She was the executive director of the Morristown Community Development Corporation, a subsidiary of the housing authority.

In addition to having to give up public office, Denman will be required to pay restitution of $16,860 to the Morristown Housing Authority and must seek a gambling addiction treatment. She is also prohibited from contacting the housing authority or its bank account.

Denman's attorney, Joel Harris, did not immediately return a call for comment.
