Freddie Kitchens is leaving the pro coaching ranks for college football.

The former Browns head coach will coach tight ends for North Carolina and be the team's run-game coordinator. Kitchens coached 16 years in the NFL in various positions. The Browns team he led in 2019 earned a 6-10 record and plenty of controversy, as quarterback Baker Mayfield and the offense he led failed to develop.

He lasted one season and his hiring is viewed as the downfall of general manager John Dorsey.

He last worked as interim offensive coordinator for the New York Giants in 2021. Before coming to Cleveland he coached with the Arizona Cardinals for 11 years.

Last year he joined the University of South Carolina as a senior analyst. He's also coached at North Texas and Ole Miss.
