Former college football player drove onto stadium field while intoxicated, Utah cops say

A former Utah State University football player is accused of driving his truck onto a stadium field while under the influence, multiple outlets reported from police.

Kevin Andrew Whimpey, 33, was arrested Tuesday, Jan. 30, at the Merlin Olsen Field in Logan, KUTV reported.

University police said officers responded to a report of someone dancing on the field, ABC4 reported.

When they got to the stadium, they saw Whimpey “kneeling on a yoga mat at the 50-yard line,” according to KUTV.

Whimpey told police he taken ketamine and had marijuana with him on the field, ABC4 reported from police. Ketamine is a dissociative anesthetic that “distorts the perception of sight and sound and makes the user feel disconnected and not in control,” according to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Police did not immediately respond to McClatchy News’ request for more information Thursday, Feb. 1.

33-year-old on probation

Police said they found marijuana, drug paraphernalia and prescription bottles in his bag, the Cache Valley Daily reported.

He was arrested on charges of suspicion of driving under the influence, criminal trespass, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, KUTV reported.

At the time of his arrest, he was also on probation for previous convictions, including attempted distribution of pornography, criminal mischief and damaging a jail cell, the Cache Valley Daily reported.

Whimpey joined the Utah State Aggies in 2011 where he was an offensive lineman, according to the college’s online football profile.

He graduated in 2014 with a degree in interdisciplinary studies.

Logan is about 80 miles north of Salt Lake City.
