Former Colorado Buffaloes cornerback Christian Gonzalez transfers to Oregon Ducks

Oregon coach Dan Lanning continues to solidify his defense with an addition.

Former Colorado cornerback Christian Gonzalez announced Saturday on Twitter that he was transferring to Oregon. On Thursday, Gonzalez announced he was putting his name into the transfer portal.

The 6-foot-1, 200-pound Gonzalez came to Colorado as part of the 2020 recruiting class from The Colony High School. He was recruited at safety as Gonzalez was the 326 overall player in the 2020 recruiting class and 46th in Texas according to 247Sports Composite.

Gonzalez switched to cornerback in his freshman season and started right away as he recorded 24 tackles and four pass breakups for the Buffaloes. In 2021, he finished with 54 tackles, six pass breakups, and five tackles for loss.

Gonzalez becomes the second player to transfer to Oregon since the arrival of Lanning to Eugene, joining Washington defensive tackle Sam Taimani. He will join Trikweze Bridges, Jaylin Davies, Darren Barkins and Avante Dickerson in Ducks secondary next season.

Gonzalez fills a massive need for the Ducks as Mykael Wright recently declared for the 2022 NFL Draft and DJ James transferred from the program last month.
