INDIANAPOLIS — The Colts have brought back a familiar face at the running back position in the wake of the decision to trade Nyheim Hines away to the Buffalo Bills, even though Indianapolis got running back Zack Moss in the trade.

Indianapolis has signed former draft pick Jordan Wilkins to the practice squad, adding depth for special teams and at the running back position as Jonathan Taylor deals with a twisted ankle.

Wilkins, a fifth-round pick by the Colts in 2018, spent three seasons as the team’s No. 3 back, carrying 195 times for 951 yards and four touchdowns and catching the ball 35 times for 233 yards and four scores over that time, including big games against the Titans in 2019 and the Lions in 2020.

Always a key special teamer, Wilkins lost his role to Deon Jackson last season and was released midway through the season. Wilkins has spent time on the practice squads of the Jaguars and Titans over the past calendar year.

Even though Wilkins is back and Hines is gone, he faces a depth chart that now includes Jackson and Phillip Lindsay, who have both played snaps this season when Taylor and Hines were out of action.
