Former day care employee taken into custody after child allegedly injured

GROVETOWN, Ga. (WJBF) – A former employee with the Big Blue Marble Day Care has been taken into custody after a parent reported that their child had been allegedly injured.

According to the Grovetown Police Department, authorities were contacted after the parent reported that their child was allegedly injured by an employee on Monday, April 29th at the day care.

Authorities say the parent stated that when they picked up their 3-year-old, the child was visibly upset and said that she had been “hurt” by a teacher.

According to authorities, the parent spoke with the director of the daycare, and the video showed Tieasha Stokes, 33, approaching the child from behind, picking her up by her right arm/armpit area, walking her to a chair, then, picking up the child with two hands under the armpits, and forcibly sitting her down into a chair.

Authorities say that the child suffered minor abrasions as a result of the incident.

The director of the daycare informed officers that Stokes had been terminated by the director on Monday.

According to the Grovetown Police Department, a warrant for cruelty to children in the 2nd degree was secured, and Stokes was taken into custody on Friday morning at her residence and then transported to the Columbia County Detention Center.
