FORT PAYNE, Ala. (WHNT) — A former DeKalb County school resource officer was arrested by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) on Friday for having sexual contact with a student.

Authorities confirmed Jairo Alexander Castillo, 32, of Collinsville is a former employee with DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) as a school resource officer.

Castillo was taken into custody around noon on Friday by ALEA, DeKalb County Investigators, DeKalb County Drug Task Force and DeKalb County Deputies.

The sheriff’s office said it and the county board of education received complaints regarding a school employee, later identified as Castillo, having sexual contact with a student. The investigation was then turned over to ALEA’s State Bureau of Investigation.

“It is standard procedure that if an employee of the Sheriff’s Office is being investigated, that investigation is turned over to the state or an outside agency,” DCSO said.

Castillo is charged with two counts of being a school employee having sexual contact with a student, and he is currently in the DeKalb County Detention Center on a $300,000.00 bond.
