Former Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) shared a “rumor” Monday that Rep. Matt Rosendale (R-MT) impregnated a staffer.

“Just a little rumor: I think their caucus may lose a member in the next couple days,” Heitkamp said on the “Talking Feds with Harry Litman” podcast, referring to the House Republican Conference, which currently holds a razor-thin majority in the House of Representatives.

“Wow, you heard it here first,” Litman chimed in.

“Might be the congressman from Montana,” Heitkamp continued. “Just to gossip a little bit, there’s a reason why Rosendale backed out of that Senate race. The rumor is that he impregnated a 20-year-old staff person.”

After months of teasing a run for the Senate seat held by Democrat Jon Tester, the Republican congressman announced earlier this month that he was withdrawing from the race after Donald Trump endorsed his opponent Tim Sheehy.

“The hill was just too steep,” Rosendale said in a statement.

Rosendale is calling the rumor that he impregnated a staffer “100% false and defamatory” and has threatened to sue Heitkamp for her comments.
