According to an investigation, suspect passed secret and top secret information about the current military-political situation in Ukraine to the Russian intelligence services. In addition, he forwarded classified data to the invaders about activities carried out by the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces to repel armed aggression.

The SBU said they detained the suspect at the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion. During a search of his place of work, the suspect tried to shoot representatives of the SBU investigative group who came to conduct legal proceedings.

“A former high-ranking official used a Makarov combat pistol against law enforcement officers,” the report says.

The SBU said that the detainee was the deputy chairman of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense in 2008-2010. At that time he worked in various positions in the civil service of this department, as well as in the ranks of the leadership of the State Space Agency of Ukraine.

According to the SBU, the suspect came to the attention of the Russian intelligence services because of his pro-Kremlin views, which were formed during his training at the Moscow Higher Combined Arms Command School and the Frunze Academy in Soviet times.

“Carrying out tasks received from the Russian invading forces, he collected secret information that circulates in the Ministry of Defense, including the Main Intelligence Directorate, as well as in the Sahaidachny National Academy of Land Forces,” the report says.

The SBU said that the aggressor-country was interested in intelligence regarding the activities of strategically important facilities of the military-industrial complex of Ukraine.

According to a deputy head of the SBU, Vasily Malyuk, for many years the enemy has been working to saturate various authorities and law enforcement agencies of Ukraine with its agents.

The suspect of treason is currently in detention. As part of the criminal proceedings against him, investigative actions are ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the suspected offenses.

The pre-trial investigation was carried out by employees of the SBU of Lviv Oblast under the procedural leadership of the Lviv regional prosecutor's office.
