Dozens of former Diplomat employees who were laid off are asking the hotel for their jobs back.
- New at 6:00, dozens of former Diplomat Beach Resort employees who got laid off because of the pandemic are asking the Hollywood hotel for a guarantee they'll eventually get their jobs back. The workers gathered in front of the Diplomat to demand a signed commitment to bring back 650 employees who they say have contributed decades of work to keep the hotel running. Those workers say all they want is to know that when their job becomes available, they won't be replaced with lower paid, younger employees.
WENDY WALSH: These are mostly women, mostly people of color, overwhelmingly immigrant workers who have given their lives to this hotel. And they want to come back and they want to continue to make the hotel a success.
- The workers include housekeepers, cooks, servers, and bellmen. Their union is also calling on Broward County legislators to tell business owners to bring back their longtime employees, especially as the tourism industry begins to rebound.
