Former drummer for Loretta Lynn will be inducted into Northeast Louisiana Music Trail

A Franklin Parish drummer who traveled the world playing for the likes of Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton will be the latest act inducted into the Northeast Louisiana Music Trail.

John Brown, Sr. will be honored Saturday with a marker in Gilbert, Louisiana, followed by a scholarship concert at the Princess Theatre, 714 Prairie Street, Winnsboro.

Born in Gilbert, Louisiana, Brown went on to serve as the drummer in The Coalminers, the band that accompanied Loretta Lynn, the country singer of hits like "I'm a Honky Tonk Girl" and "Coal Miner's Daughter." He also played for other country artists such as Donna Fargo, Dolly Parton and Jody Miller. Brown died in May.

Brown will be the 12th act inducted into the Northeast Louisiana Music Trail. Founded in 2021, the trail honors talent with commemorative markers in their hometowns throughout northeastern Louisiana. The historical landmark sign project was founded by Enoch's Pub and Café founder and former owner Doyle Jeter.

The marker unveiling will be held at 3:30 p.m. at the City Hall Gazebo in Gilbert and will be followed by a concert at 6:30 p.m. at the Princess Theatre, 714 Prairie Street, Winnsboro.

The concert will benefit a scholarship named in Brown's honor to help a Franklin Parish high school senior who wishes to pursue music education in college. The concert will feature music from artists such as The Beatles, Ray Charles, Bobby Caldwell, Lou Rawls, Chicago and Earth, Wind & Fire, performed by local musicians.
