Former EastEnders actor Toby-Alexander Smith has shared his next role since leaving the soap and it's a far cry from his time in Walford.

Smith played serial killer Gray Atkins on Albert Square, leaving the soap in 2022 after his character was arrested for killing Chantelle, Tina and Kush.

Now Smith is making a return to acting, this time entering the world of Jane Austen.

On Instagram, Smith shared a series of photos of himself in character in new film An American In Austen, which will premiere on the Hallmark channel on February 17.

Smith will be playing Pride & Prejudice's Charles Bingley. Captioning the pics, Smith wrote: "Mr. Bingley. ‘An American in Austen’ premieres 17th Feb."

The film isn't a an adaptation of Pride & Prejudice though, as its synopsis reads: "Harriet, who thinks that no real man compares to Mr. Darcy, is transported into Pride & Prejudice and gets an unexpected chance to find out."

The cast also includes Dynasty's Eliza Bennett and former Home and Away actor Nicholas Bishop.

Last September, Smith tied the knot with fellow soap star, Emmerdale actress Amy Walsh, who plays Tracy Metcalfe.

The couple had been dating for three years and have a two-year-old daughter together.
