Former Ethan Allen space in Montrose could become Panera, 2 other retail stores

The building that formerly housed the Ethan Allen furniture store in Montrose may soon become the home to three businesses.

Plans to convert the building, at 55 S. Springside Drive in Copley, were recently approved by the township's architectural review board. The plans now have to go through the Summit County Building Department, said Loudan Klein, Copley's economic development director.

The owners of the 1.9 acre property, Butterfli Holdings LLC, have proposed turning the 19,172-square-foot building into space for three businesses. One would be a Panera Bread, which would occupy 4,169 square feet and would include a drive-thru window, and the other two would become retail spaces. The two retail establishments are still to be determined.

Representatives from Panera Bread could not be reached to explain whether a nearby location on West Market Street in Fairlawn would be maintained.

Ethan Allen opened in 1999 as an independent store, and closed in 2022. The chain has its headquarters in Danbury, Conn.
