Former Florida State basketball star Michael Ojo dead at age 27

Former Florida State basketball star Michael Ojo is dead at the age of 27, according to multiple reports.

Ojo, who playe for the Seminoles from 2012 to 2017, suffered a heart attack during an individual workout for Partizan, a professional basketball team in Belgrade, Serbia, according to Eurohoops.net.

The 7-foot-1 center didn’t start playing basketball until a few years before arriving in Tallahassee. Originally from Nigeria, Ojo was discovered while playing soccer and moved to the United States to begin his basketball career at a Tennessee high school, according to the Tallahassee Democrat.

“I am devastated,” former Florida State men’s basketball director of sports medicine Sam Lunt told the Tallahassee Democrat. “I used to bring him to the house for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner. Loved that guy.”

Eurohops.net reported, “there have been no signs of Ojo having any health issues throughout his tenure in Serbia including any heart conditions.”

Ojo had played three seasons in Serbia, before becoming a free agent this summer.
