Former football coach at Covington Catholic, Lloyd and McNicholas Rudy Tassini dies
Former Covington Catholic and Lloyd Memorial head football coach Rudy Tassini died Friday at age 80.
Tassini had been hospitalized for nearly a month with COVID-related complications.
He was the third head coach in CovCath history, taking over in 1969, the third season of the program’s existence. He coached from 1969-72 and had a 15-25 record there.
He was 8-2 during the 1969 season, and after the 1972 season, he left CovCath to coach defense at Lloyd.
He returned to CovCath to be an assistant coach with longtime Colonels head coach Lynn Ray before returning to Lloyd to be its head coach in 1987. Tassini coached at Lloyd from 1987-99. He led the Juggernauts to an 11-2 record in 1991 and a 12-1 mark in 1995. He was 64-51 during the 1990s, and his record from 1987-89 was not available.
He was a former lineman with the University of Cincinnati football program.
The Pittsburgh native coached at McNicholas for three seasons before taking over at CovCath.
He graduated from South Fayette High School in McDonald, Pa.
Please join in praying for the repose of the soul of former Covington Catholic and Lloyd Memorial football coach, Rudy Tassini, who passed away this morning.
