A Chinese court on Friday sentenced Chinese-Canadian pop star Kris Wu to 13 years in prison on charges including rape. Beijing’s Chaoyang District Court said Wu was given 11 years and 6 months for a 2020 rape, and 1 year and 10 months for the “crime of assembling a crowd to engage in sexual promiscuity” in a 2018 event in which he and others allegedly assaulted two women they had gotten drunk. Chinese Canadian actor and singer Kris Wu was fined nearly $84 million for tax evasion less than two hours after he was sentenced to 13 years in prison for rape on Friday. The 32-year-old singer, whose real name is Wu Yifan, was ordered to pay 600 million yuan (approximately $83.6 million) by the Beijing Municipal Tax Service for hiding personal income and other tax-related offenses. Local taxation authorities in Beijing said Wu hid his income through domestic and foreign affiliated enterprises, evading 95 million yuan (approximately $13.2 million) worth of taxes from 2019 to 2020.
