Former Georgia football coach Mark Richt returning to a sideline once again in 2023

Mark Richt isn’t quite done with coaching yet.

The former Georgia football coach will serve as a head coach for the Polynesian Bowl, which features 100 high school senior football prospects, according to an announcement from game officials on Thursday.

The game in Hawaii will be broadcast live on the NFL Network on Jan. 20, 2023 at 9 p.m. ET at Kunuiakea Stadium in Honolulu.

“The 2023 Polynesian Bowl is going to be an amazing experience,” Richt said in a news release. “I look forward to celebrating culture and coaching the nation’s best players in paradise.”

Richt is on the ballot this year for the College Football Hall of Fame. He last coached in the 2018 season, his final at Miami after three years. Richt, who returned to Athens where family still lives and bought a new home, revealed last year he is battling Parkinson’s Disease but remains active. He's an analyst on the ACC Network.

Richt coached Georgia from 2001-15, compiling a 145-51 record with two SEC championships. He was recognized before a home game against Missouri in November in Sanford Stadium.

Former NFL coach Romeo Crennell will coach Team Mauka (Mountain) in the Polynesian Bowl. Richt will coach Team Makai (Ocean).
