Former GA high school football standout found guilty of killing pregnant wife, mom
A former Georgia high school football standout convicted of killing his pregnant wife and his mother has pleaded guilty but mentally ill to two counts of malice murder.
Johnny Edwards IV was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole on Monday.

On Dec. 7, 2019, Edwards called 911 and told dispatchers he had killed his mother, wife and unborn child and would be waiting for law enforcement outside his home in Fayette County.
When Edwards answered the door, he had blood on his ears, neck, arms, hands, pants and sandals.

Deputies found his pregnant wife, Venus Quanteh, lying on the floor of an upstairs bedroom in a pool of blood. His mother, Kathy Edwards, was lying on the floor near the bed also covered in blood.
Quanteh was found to have a fractured skull, cuts to her head, a stab wound to her cheek, a stab wound to her left shoulder and cuts to her fingers. Kathy Edwards had a fractured skull, cuts on her scalp, a cut on her nose and stab wounds to her neck.

A blood-covered baseball bat was found between the two women and a steak knife was found on the bathroom floor.
Edwards, who was 34 at the time of the murders, was one of the top football players in Georgia in 2003. He was a star player at Starr’s Mil High School and went on to play as a defensive back at Wake Forest University.
Edwards was living at his parents’ home at the time of the murders. His father was out of town when it happened.
