Former Golden Corral property in Delta Township has new owner
DELTA TWP. — A building near the Lansing Mall that previously was home to Golden Corral, which has been closed since the spring of 2020, has been sold — but it's unclear what the new owner's plans are for the former restaurant.
The 10,323-square-foot former eatery sits on just over 2.5 acres at 730 Elmwood Road. It was sold in April to Grand Ledge-based Dong Properties LLC by Maryland-based Realty Income Corporation, according to Eaton County records.
Hue Dong is a member of Dong Properties, according to documents for the property filed with the county. Records also list Dong as the owner of World Buffet, a restaurant located nearby at 5002 W. Saginaw Hwy.
Messages left for Dong last week and Tuesday morning weren't returned.
The warranty deed filed with the county doesn't disclose the property's sale price. CBRE had listed the property for sale at $995,000.
Real estate agent David Long, with CBRE, who represented the property when it was for sale, said last month the new owner indicated the building would be used for a restaurant.
The property has been home to a few restaurants that have closed over the years, including Fire Mountain, which closed in March 2016 after the chain's parent company, Buffet LLC, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
North Carolina-based chain Golden Corral opened a restaurant in the building in 2017. The location closed in March 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic and mandated restaurant dining-room closures statewide. It never reopened.
