Richard J. Kramer, the recently retired chairman, CEO and president of the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, will step back into the spotlight in March as the 2024 recipient of the Greater Akron Chamber's H. Peter Burg Economic Development Leadership Award.

“Knowing the great legacy of Pete Burg, to receive this award is an honor and a powerful reminder of the importance of supporting the economic success of Greater Akron,” Kramer said in a news release. “Wherever Goodyear has a presence, it’s always been important to me that we commit the time of our associates and the financial resources of the company to driving community success — nowhere is that truer than in Akron, our home since our founding in 1898.”

The award was created in 2004 in memory of Burg — Akron-based FirstEnergy Corp's former chairman and CEO — by the chamber’s executive committee to recognize a leader who demonstrates a commitment to economic and community development in the Greater Akron region.

Kramer will be honored at the Chamber’s annual meeting March 14 at the John S. Knight Center.

“Running a global company, a CEO may be anyplace in the world on a given day — but throughout his tenure at Goodyear, Rich’s personal commitment to Greater Akron and the commitment he instills in every Goodyear leader have made a lasting impact on our region,” said Steve Millard, President and CEO of the Greater Akron Chamber. “Spending time with Rich never fails to provide an interesting blend of world class innovative thinking and passion for creating exciting possibilities for both Goodyear and the region.”

As the 19th recipient of the award, Kramer joins a distinguished group including Rick Fedorovich, County Executive Ilene Shapiro, Roger Read, S. Theresa Carter and the late Philip Maynard.
