Former Kentucky Gov. John Y. Brown Jr. will lie in state in the state Capitol Nov. 29, Gov. Andy Beshear announced Wednesday.

Brown, who built Kentucky Fried Chicken into an international success before serving as governor from 1979 to 1983, died Monday. He was 88.

The former governor will lie in state in the state Capitol Nov. 29 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Brown’s family will also have a public visitation in the Capitol Rotunda from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. that day.

Brown’s memorial service is scheduled for Wednesday. It will be a private ceremony, but the public can watch on KET.
