LEDGEVIEW – Former Green Bay Packers coaching assistant Ruvell Martin listed his house at 3957 Garrett St. for $679,900.

Martin listed the house in Ledgeview in February and, like other recent departing Packers coaches, quickly received an offer. He bought the house in May 2020 for $545,000, according to Brown County land records.

The four houses listed so far by Packers coaches were all priced at $580,000 and up. All received offers within weeks of being listed, something that would not have happened a year ago. The average sales price now in Brown County is above list price, said Christine Degen of Coldwell Banker Real Estate Group, the listing agent for one of the houses.

"What I'm seeing is the cost of building is going up, so people are looking at existing homes and are willing to pay the price. A newly used house is great," Degen said. "If someone is in a hurry, they don't have time to build."

Also, building materials are in short supply because of coronavirus pandemic disruptions to supply chains, and inventory of existing homes continues to be low. As a result, the year-over-year cost of houses in Brown County is up 17%.

"That's a big change in a year," Degen said. "Some of these houses a year ago wouldn't have sold like that."

The Packers hired Martin, a former player, as a coach through an NFL diversity fellowship program designed as a vocational tool to increase the number of full-time minority coaches. He chose to leave the Packers staff at the end of the 2021 season.

The six-bedroom, 3.5-bath house is 3,741 square feet on a .71-acre lot. Photos are available at Realtor.com.

An updated kitchen includes a center island/snack bar with quartz counters, white cabinets, stainless appliances with gas range, subway tile backsplash, along with a walk-in pantry. The first-floor master suite has one walk-in closet and one standard closet, and a large private bathroom that includes vanities, a jetted tub, and a large, spa-like walk-in shower with glass door.

The upper-level has four large bedrooms and a full bathroom. A newly finished basement has five windows offering lots of light, a spacious bedroom, bathroom, family room and a large bar/rec area with a full-size refrigerator. The heated 3.5-stall garage has garage-to-basement access.

The backyard includes a large patio, mature landscaping, a fire pit with a flagstone surround and a meandering creek.

Jill Dickson-Kesler of Jill & Co. Real Estate/Coldwell Banker Real Estate Group is the listing agent.

Martin was a teammate of Packers head coach Matt LaFleur at Saginaw Valley State. A wide receiver, he played for the Packers from 2005-2008. He played 41 games for the Packers, catching 52 passes for 749 yards and six touchdowns.

He also played for the San Diego Chargers, St. Louis Rams, Seattle Seahawks and Buffalo Bills in the NFL.

Others departing the Packers staff include new Denver Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett, who was Green Bay's offensive coordinator last season, and tight ends coach Justin Outten, who Hackett picked to be the Broncos' offensive coordinator.

Former Green Bay Packers outside linebackers coach Michael Smith left Green Bay to become outside linebackers coach and pass rush specialist for the Minnesota Vikings.
