Former Green Bay Packers accountant from Pulaski dies; Bob Harlan says Blasczyk was 'startled' by players' and coaches' salaries

GREEN BAY – Longtime Green Bay Packers executive Richard "Dick" Blasczyk died June 13.

Blasczyk, 87, worked for the Packers from 1976-1994, retiring as the team's controller.

He was a Pulaski native and 1951 graduate of Pulaski High School. He served in the U.S. Army before he married Mary Ann Karcz and worked for nearly 20 years at Karcz Ford in Pulaski as finance manager.

Blasczyk was friends with a Packers executive committee member who encouraged him to apply for an accountant position with the team when the job came open. He joined the team in 1976.

Before becoming president and CEO of the Packers, Bob Harlan had an office next to Blasczyk, who could hear Harlan's negotiations with players. Harlan said Blasczyk couldn't believe how much the Packers were paying players and coaches.

"Dick was just startled at the numbers," Harlan said. "I’m talking signing bonuses of two or three thousand dollars. He couldn’t believe it. He was a very typical Pulaski person who watched his numbers very carefully."

Blasczyk was an accountant, controller and team travel coordinator during his years with the Packers. He retired in 1994.

"He was a heck of a guy to work with. He would listen and adapted very well," Harlan said. "He was a quiet, reserved man. Very capable."
