Jul. 13—Chestnut Hill College's Connor Evans, former Hickory High standout, has been named the NCAA Division II Baseball Freshman of the Year.

He shares the award with Southern Arkansas pitcher Jeremy Adorno.

Evans (position player) led all freshmen with a .440 batting average and struck out just 13 times in 150 at-bats while stealing 21 bases on 25 attempts.

The Chestnut Hill Griffins (school is in Philadelphia) went 20-24 this past season.

In May, Evans announced that he has entered the NCAA transfer portal.
