Former Highway Patrol post commander is promoted, transfers to Cleveland District

JACKSON TWP. ‒ Leo Shirkey, former post commander at the Ohio State Highway Patrol's Canton post, has been promoted to staff lieutenant and moved to a new assignment.

Shirkey recently transferred to the Cleveland District headquarters as an assistant district commander.

Shirkey began his career with the state patrol in May 1992. He earned his commission in November 1992 and was assigned to the Milan Post. He also served as a trooper at the Canton Post.

In 2000, he was promoted to sergeant and transferred to the Marietta Post to serve as assistant post commander. He also served at the Medina, Canton and Wooster posts and the Warren District Criminal Patrol Unit as a sergeant.

In 2014, he was promoted to lieutenant and served as commander at the Ravenna Post before returning to Canton.

Shirkey earned an associate degree in criminal justice from the University of Akron in 1992.
