Former Holby City star Lee Mead says he would "probably not" return as Lofty Chiltern

From Digital Spy

Former Holby City star Lee Mead doesn't think viewers will be seeing Lofty Chiltern anytime soon… if ever.

Mead turned in his scrubs back in December in an emotional episode that saw Lofty handing in his notice after making long-time love Dom Copeland (David Ames) realise that their relationship would never work.

Fans have since been keen on the possibility of Mead coming back to Holby or his old stomping grounds at Casualty someday, but he didn't sound particularly interested in an Instagram Live with his fans this week.

"Probably not, no," he said of a comeback to either continuing drama. "I think I've done that now. Although, I guess it depends if the producers want me back one day or if a new producer comes in.

"But, I felt the character of Lofty ran its course. I did two years in Casualty and two-and-a-half years in Holby – five years is quite a long time to play one character."

Mead also didn't see much point in ever revisiting fan-favourite couple Dom and Lofty, since they'd been through the so much trauma together this past year.

"I think the Dom and Lofty thing ran its course too, as most soap relationships do," he explained. "There are only so many times you can argue, break up and get back together again."

Holby City shocked viewers with another exit this week.

Marcus Griffith's character Xavier 'Zav' Duval was killed off in a cycling accident while trying to expose evil Cameron's secret.

Holby City is now taking an extended hiatus until later in the year. The show airs on Tuesday evenings on BBC One.
