Former Holby City actor Leslie Ash has opened up on whether she would join the cast of EastEnders.

Ash appeared in Holby City as Vanessa Lytton from 2009 to 2010. After 11 years off-screen, during which time Ash took a break from acting whilst dealing with a life-changing spinal infection, in 2021 Ash returned to screens. This time she had a role in Holby City's sister show Casualty for a one-off episode.

Now, Ash is looking to swap hospital wards for the cobbles of Albert Square as she shares her "love" for the soaps, especially EastEnders.

"I love the soaps. And if I had to choose one, I suppose that would be EastEnders because it's in London," she told the Daily Star.

She continued: "If I was to do one that's up north, it would mean I'd be away from home. But for someone my age, I'd probably just go up and play a character for a short while. I'm always up for everything. I love this business passionately."

Ash said she "never wanted" her time working on soaps "to ever come to an end".

Though that's not the only role she wants to turn to next, as Ash has her sights set on another major show – Netflix's wildly popular period drama Bridgerton.

"I'd love to do something like Bridgerton. Oh gosh, I love all the costumes and everything like that," she said. "And with acting, it keeps your brain active when you have to learn lines."

If Ash joined the cast of EastEnders, she wouldn't be the only new face as the soap is due to welcome a brand new family helmed by some familiar faces.

The Knight family will enter the BBC show in the summer, the relatives of Elaine Peacock (Harriet Thorpe) who has already been reintroduced to audiences.

The family will be completed by Prey for the Devil's Colin Salmon as George, Elaine's partner, and his two daughters Anna and Gina, played by Molly Rainford and Francesca Henry.

Selected episodes of Holby City are streaming on BBC iPlayer. EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer.
