Former Hollyoaks star Gary Lucy has been involved in a car crash that took place on Boxing Day.

The actor took to his Instagram Stories to share pictures of his wrecked car, writing: "Someone was watching over me today."

He also captioned the photos: "Gary nine lives."

In the pictures, the mangled Range Rover can be seen on the side of a snowy road with its front end caved in and front wheels missing.

Lucy's partner, former Love Island star Laura Anderson, shared a picture collage of the accident to her Instagram Stories. The crashed car features in a photo marked 10am of Boxing Day, while Lucy can be seen in a hospital bed posing with a gown on at 11am.

Later that day, the actor walks aided by crutches at 6pm. The last picture sees Lucy with a dog resting on his chest, while the caption reads: "The exciting life of the Luce. Always keeping me on my toes," with a covered eyes monkey emoji.

Lucy is best known for having played the role of Luke Morgan on Hollyoaks on and off between 1999 and 2022. He left the soap in a tragic exit storyline in June, leaving his fiancée Cindy Cunningham (Stephanie Waring) grieving for his untimely death.

The actor has also appeared on ITV crime drama The Bill, in which he portrayed Will Fletcher for more than 160 episodes between 2005 and 2010, as well as BBC soap EastEnders as Danny Pennant between 2012 and 2014.

Hollyoaks streams first on All 4, with new episodes dropping each weekday morning. The show airs Mondays to Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, and at 7pm on E4.
