Former home of Aiken Brewing Company changes hands in seven-figure transaction

May 9—A building in downtown Aiken has new owners who paid a seven-figure price for the structure.

C.P. Doremus said he and a partner who wants to remain anonymous purchased the former home of the Aiken Brewing Company.

In the name of Did It Right LLC, they bought the two-story, 5,600-square-foot brick building for $1 million from Pruiett Properties LLC.

The deal closed March 31, according Aiken County land records.

Doremus is the registered agent for Did It Right.

"It had been for sale quite a long time when we looked at it and we kind of went after it," said Doremus of the acquisition. "It looked like a good deal. We liked the location and the building itself. It's a great property."

With his wife, Amy, Doremus owns Aiken Saddlery in Aiken.

He said it's a good time to invest in downtown real estate because business there is "is just going to grow and grow because there are so many people moving to Aiken."

Doremus and his partner have leased the former Aiken Brewing Company building to tenants who plan to open a restaurant there in the near future.

The structure is at 140 Laurens St. S.W. at an entrance to The Alley.

In partnership with polo player Justin Pimsner, Doremus and his wife own the building in the The Alley where the Tailgate Tavern is located.

They purchased it for $400,000 in 2018 in the name of Pibba LLC.

The Aiken Brewing Company closed for good in March.

Lannie Pruiett told the Aiken Standard that the ownership and operation of the popular restaurant and microbrewery was a venture that had "run its course for the Pruiett family.

"It's still a viable business, but we're moving on to different things," he added.

Also known as the "Brew Pub," the Aiken Brewing Company had been a downtown presence since 1997.

Don Beavers and Mark Findlay founded the business, according to an Aiken Standard article about its opening.

The Pruiett family began running the Aiken Brewing Company in 2003.

It closed temporarily in 2020 during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.

For a while, the Aiken Brewing Company teamed up with Carolina Moon Distillery in Edgefield to produce hand sanitizer, which was in short supply back then.
