Home and Away alum Tammin Sursok has revealed why she returned to acting in TV soaps, despite previously stating that she had wrapped on them.

Tammin played Dani Sutherland on Home and Away for four years between 2000 and 2004 and had said that chapter of her life was over.

Speaking with news.com.au, Tammin said: "I'd always said in the press that I would never ever come back to it just because it was a chapter and that chapter was over, and I was happy with how that chapter went."

She was just 15 when she first appeared in Home and Away, and after leaving the soap starred in hit US shows Pretty Little Liars as Jenna Marshall and Hannah Montana as Siena.

Last year she joined another popular Australian soap, Neighbours, playing the guest role of Montana Marcel, adding: "I was done. I was ready to move on to a different chapter, but then they offered me the role."

Reminiscing about her time on the Home and Away set, she explained her reason for returning: "It was so long ago. I don't know if I made up what it felt like, what the smells were, just what the cafeteria, how it felt, how big the studio was... All these things that I didn't know if I had made up in my head about the experience, I wanted to do that as an adult.

"It was a totally different experience, but also similar to what I remember. Firstly, I can't believe how many hours they shoot. I don't think I could have a family and do that – it's too many hours. But it was a really cool experience. I'm glad I did it."

Pondering if she would now have done her teenage years in soap differently, she said: "The thing is, the times in my life that I look back on and go: 'Ooh, would I have started Home And Away at 15?' I was so impressionable, I was so young, I didn't really know which way was up. I chose to be an actor at 15. It wasn't my parents – I wanted it so badly. But would it have been more helpful for me mentally if I had just had a normal high school experience and wasn't in the public eye?

"But then if I didn't have that experience and I never would've gotten to where I am now, I would never have been on set and met my husband [film producer Sean McEwen], which means I would never have had my kids."

Neighbours returns in the second half of 2023 with new episodes streaming free on Amazon Freevee in the UK and US. Network 10 will retain first-run rights in Australia for the new series.
