Jul. 22—Former UConn guard R.J. Cole knows where the next phase of his basketball career will take place.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound guard has signed with Lavrio B.C. for the 2022-23 season, the team announced Friday.

Lavrio B.C. plays out of Lavrio, Attica, Greece. It plays in the Greek Basket League, the top-tier league in the country. The team finished 8-16 and missed the playoffs last year.

Cole, a native of Union, New Jersey, elected not to use his final year of collegiate eligibility in order to enter the NBA Draft in June.

He wasn't selected, but had the chance to play for the Los Angeles Lakers during the NBA Summer League schedule. In three games during the Las Vegas session, Cole averaged 3.7 points and 2.7 rebounds in 13.8 minutes per game.

Cole transferred to the Huskies ahead of the 2019-20 season following two years at Howard, where he was the MEAC Rookie of the Year in 2017-18 and Player of the Year the following season.

He played two seasons at UConn — he had to sit out the 2019-20 campaign due to NCAA transfer rules. He played 56 games for the Huskies, averaging 14.3 points, 4.2 assists, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.1 steals.

UConn reached the NCAA Tournament in both seasons, the first time it reached the tournament in back-to-back years since 2011 and 2012.

Cole averaged a team-leading 15.8 points and 4.1 assists a game last season. He was also second in steals (1.1) and fifth in rebounds (3.4). He was named to the All-Big East first team.yg

UConn finished 23-10 and fell to New Mexico State in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
