BEAVER — After being convicted of several counts of embezzlement that caused a local credit union to close, one woman has been sentenced to multiple years in prison for her actions.

The U.S. Department of Justice has officially sentenced Stacey Shaw, 48, of Salem, Ohio, in connection to embezzlement charges from her time serving as the CEO and president of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 712's credit union in Beaver. Prosecutors say that Shaw opened six different credit cards in her name in May 2017 without approval from the IBEW 712 board of directors. She then raised the spending limit on these cards 138 times for personal purchases, leading to a $2.1 million outstanding balance when she was caught.

The Department of Justice also found Shaw guilty of willful failure to file tax returns, with her not disclosing a gross income of $589,200 in 2018 and $1.1 million in 2019.

After IBEW 712 was liquidated, West Penn P&P Federal Credit Union in Beaver assumed its assets and loans. IBEW 712 served 2,935 members before closing, representing many workers for the Shell cracker plant and other local projects.
