A former Iowa State University football player has pleaded guilty to assaulting former University of Iowa basketball star Jordan Bohannon.

Nicholas Kron, 31, now of Nashville, was charged in the May 2021 attack in which Bohannon suffered a head injury. According to court filings, the assault took place outside a bar after closing time, where Bohannon and another person were arguing. Kron is seen on a video approaching Bohannon, turning him around and punching him three times in the head, knocking him down.

Kron was charged with misdemeanor assault causing serious injury. According to new court filings, he entered a guilty plea Monday.

Under a deal with prosecutors, the state will recommend a 45-day jail term and about $500 in fines and court costs, while Kron can request a deferred judgment. His sentencing date has not been scheduled.

Bohannon also filed a civil lawsuit against Kron, accusing him of "brutally, unlawfully and intentionally" assaulting him. Court records show the suit was eventually dismissed after Bohannon's attorneys were unable to locate Kron to serve him with the complaint.

Bohannon recovered from his injuries and played his final season with Iowa in the 2021-22 season. He finished his career as the Hawkeyes' record-holder in career 3-pointers made (455), games played (179), assists (709), and free throw percentage (.887). He is the NCAA's all-time leader in career games played.

Bohannon is a member of the NBA G-League's Iowa Wolves.

Kron finished his Cyclones career in 2013. He played in 24 games in his final two seasons in Ames and was a two-time Academic All-Big 12 selection.
