Former Kansas Jayhawks basketball player Marcus Adams Jr. no longer attending Gonzaga
Marcus Adams Jr., the former Kansas men’s basketball freshman who departed KU for Gonzaga in July, won’t attend the Spokane, Washington university after all.
The forward announced his departure from the Zags to ON3’s Joe Tipton on Sunday.
According to Tipton, Adams will remain in the transfer portal and will not have to re-enter because he never enrolled at Gonzaga.
Adams left the Jayhawks in July, saying he didn’t feel it was the “right fit.”
“I felt like it was a bit odd with the team; I (didn’t) feel like it was the right fit, so I left when I had some time,” Adams told The Star in July.
Not even a week after entering the portal, Adams had seemingly found a home with the Zags. He picked Gonzaga over a list of other suitors that included TCU, BYU, Missouri, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, USC and Oregon.
“I like how coach Mark Few reached out to me,” Adams Told the Star in July. “It looked like a good fit for me. They said they needed me. I was (at the) right spot (as) a 3-and-D wing. They needed a guy that could shoot the rock, make plays and facilitate. I was that guy. They reached out and showed a lot of interest. “I looked through it with my parents and my family. It was the best fit.
Now, the former four-star recruit is on the hunt for his third school without having played a second of college basketball. He will likely need a waiver in order to play this upcoming season.
Adams averaged 28.8 points, 6.8 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game during the 2022-23 season at Narbonne High in California. In early March, he committed to KU as part of the Jayhawks’ recruiting class of 2024. He announced his intent to reclassify to the class of 2023 on March 21.
