A Portage County judge has ordered probation for a former Kent man who stabbed another man in the back at a Streetsboro apartment in April.

Judge Laurie J. Pittman specified during the sentencing hearing for Darjahn Zavier Lee Jordan, 23, in Portage County Court of Common Pleas on Tuesday that the first year of Jordan's probation will be under intensive supervision.

"Your honor, I would like to apologize for my actions," Jordan told Pittman just prior to being sentenced. "I also apologize to the victim, even though he is not here. I guarantee you I will never be in your courtroom again."

Portage County Municipal Court in Ravenna records list a Kent address for Jordan, but Troy Reeves, Jordan's attorney, told Pittman that Jordan now lives with his mother in Cuyahoga County. Common pleas records include a Euclid address for Jordan.

Before the sentencing, Reeves also told Pittman that Jordan does not have any prior criminal record and he now has a full-time job.

Streetsboro police say that Twinsburg police reported to them at about 2:30 a.m. on April 2 that a 41-year-old man was at an emergency room in Twinsburg with stabbing injuries reportedly stemming from an incident in Streetsboro.

Streetsboro police said they determined that about an hour before, the man had been dropping off a woman at a Delores Drive apartment. Jordan was waiting there, the two men fought and Jordan stabbed the man. According to court records, the weapon was a kitchen knife and the man was stabbed three times in the back, causing serious injuries.

Police, however, said the man was released from the hospital the next day.

A grand jury indicted Jordan with two counts of second-degree felony assault, with one count specifying that the alleged assault was committed with a "deadly weapon." Jordan pleaded guilty on May 24 to third-degree felony attempted felonious assault. In a plea deal, the charge was amended down from one of the assault charges while the other charge was dismissed.

During his sentencing, Pittman also ordered that Jordan pay a $300 fine plus $270 in court costs within three years, with the option of performing community service for $10 per hour.

As conditions of his probation, Pittman ordered that Jordan have no contact with the victim, undergo a mental health evaluation and follow any recommendations, complete an anger management class, and maintain full-time employment.
