Glenna Bevin, the wife of former Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin, filed for divorce Thursday in Jefferson Circuit Court.

The petition for the dissolution of the 26-year marriage stated that the Bevins' marriage is "irretrievably broken" and that they have been separated for over one year.

While the two have nine children together, the petition of Glenna Bevin notes that only two are still minors, requesting joint custody and that she serve as the primary residential parent.

Her petition also states that she is unable to support herself and does not have independent means to pay for her attorneys' fees, seeking assistance from Matt Bevin, child support and their property "appropriately divided between them."

Glenna Bevin is being represented by Louisville attorney Mark Dobbins.

Bevin, a Republican, was elected governor of Kentucky in 2015, serving one term in office after being defeated by a narrow margin in his 2019 reelection race by Andy Beshear.

Bevin teased a bid for governor this year, only to not file for office on the deadline to enter the race in January. Though he strongly hinted that he would file for office that day, he instead gave a rambling 22-minute speech on various topics to a throng of reporters and political onlookers in the Capitol rotunda before walking out the door to his van to leave.

Matt Bevin was not immediately available for comment.
