A former Kings big man is returning to Sacramento for an opportunity to compete for a roster spot in training camp.

Daniel Hazan of Hazan Sports Management told The Sacramento Bee the Kings are signing Skal Labissiere to an Exhibit 10 contract. An Exhibition 10 contract is a one-year minimum deal with no compensation protection.

Another league source described the Labissiere signing as a Stockton Kings move, saying the organization hopes to have Labissiere on its G League team pending finalization of a trade with the G League’s Capitanes de Ciudad de Mexico.

Labissiere, 27, began his NBA career with the Kings in 2016, but he has been out of the league since 2020. The 6-foot-10, 235-pound forward/center averaged 7.2 points and 4.5 rebounds over four NBA seasons before playing professionally in Puerto Rico and Mexico over the past two years.

The Phoenix Suns selected Labissiere out of Kentucky with the No. 28 pick in the first round of the 2016 NBA draft before trading his draft rights to Sacramento. Labissiere became the highest-drafted Haitian player since Samuel Dalembert in 2011.

As a rookie, Labissiere scored a career-high 32 points in a 107-101 victory over the Suns on March 15, 2017. He averaged 8.8 points and 4.9 rebounds in 33 games as a rookie and posted nearly identical numbers over 60 games in 2017-18, including 29 starts.

The Kings traded Labissiere to the Portland Trail Blazers in February 2019 in the deal that brought Caleb Swanigan to Sacramento. A year later, the Blazers traded Labissiere to the Atlanta Hawks for a future protected second-round draft pick.

Labissiere played for the G League Westchester Knicks in 2021. He played for Cangrejeros de Santurce in Puerto Rico in 2022 and the G League Capitanes de Ciudad de Mexico in 2023.
