Former Lake basketball player Jake Maranville wins national title with Nova Southeastern
EVANSVILLE, IND. — The NCAA Division II men's basketball national championship game ended in joy for former Lake High School player Jake Maranville.
Marnaville's Nova Southeastern Sharks held off West Liberty 111-101 on Saturday to win their first national title. The redshirt sophomore guard scored six points in 18 minutes off the bench for the Sharks, who finish 36-0. Their 111 points are the most scored in any NCAA men's or women's basketball championship game.

The national championship comes after two tough seasons for Maranville. He saw his team's 2020-21 season canceled because of COVID-19. He also missed the entire 2021-22 season because of an injury.
Maranville made 18 starts and appeared 28 games for the Sharks in 2019-20. Nova Southeastern qualified for the NCAA Tournament that year, but the tournament was canceled because of the COVID-19 outbreak.
Former Walsh University Christian Montague scored 19 points for West Liberty, which finishes at 33-4. Montague was a two-time All-Great Midwest Athletic Conference point guard at Walsh before he transferred to West Liberty prior to the 2021-22 season.
