EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Dylan Penn is taking his basketball talents to Burlington.

The former Memorial standout announced he will transfer to Vermont to use his final season of collegiate eligibility. Penn was one of the top mid-major transfers following a successful career at Bellarmine.

Vermont, who has made three of the past five NCAA Tournaments, went 28-6 this past year and lost to Arkansas in the first round of the Tournament. Harrison grad Robin Duncan was a senior for the Catamounts but could have an extra year of eligibility as well.

Penn was one of the top players for Bellarmine during his final season. He led the Knights in scoring (16.6 points per game) and assists (5.0) while finishing second in rebounds (4.2) and steals. Penn is at this best attacking the basket and led the country in points from 9-10 feet.

The 6-3 point guard took over during the ASUN Tournament, averaging 19.3 points and 6.0 assists while shooting 50 percent in three wins. Penn totaled 22 points, six rebounds and four assists in the title game against Jacksonville to earn ASUN MVP.

Bellarmine went 20-13 and won the ASUN Tournament but under current NCAA rules – the Knights were ineligible for the automatic bid because they were only two years removed from Division II and not the required four – did not qualify for the postseason.

Penn scored 1,260 career points at Bellarmine and was named All-ASUN twice.

A four-year starter and three-time team captain under coach Rick Wilgus, Penn shined during his prep career at Memorial. The point guard averaged 18.0 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists his senior year as the Tigers lost in the Class 3A sectional championship. Penn scored 1,175 career points at Memorial.

Per N.D. Kendrick of Pocket City Basketball, Penn heard from numerous programs once entering the transfer portal including several in power five conferences: Ole Miss, Purdue, Vanderbilt, Oregon State, Georgia Tech, Missouri and Ohio State.
