Former Miami Hurricanes DE starter Jahfari Harvey entering transfer portal

A popular former starter on the University of Miami defense is heading to the transfer portal.

Fifth-year defensive end Jahfari Harvey will enter the portal after it opens Dec. 4, according to a Miami Herald source.

Harvey, a 6-4, 252-pound former four-star prospect out of Vero Beach High School, started 18 games in his five UM seasons, redshirting as a freshman after four games. He finishes his UM career with 10 1/2 sacks, 99 tackles, one defensive touchdown, a fumble recovery and interception.

This season, Harvey started five of his 12 games. He had 23 tackles, 2 1/2 tackles for loss, one sack, a pass breakup and fumble recovery. Harvey’s most productive season was in 2022, when he led UM with 5 1/2 sacks and added 7 1/2 tackles for loss. He had 31 total tackles.

Harvey, an upbeat, friendly Hurricane, was virtually unknown before the Hurricanes offered him a scholarship in January 2018. But he flourished his senior year at Vero Beach, finishing the season with 85 tackles, 18 1/2 tackles for loss, 7 1/2 sacks, a forced fumble and three fumble recoveries.

“I love competition,’’ Harvey said entering the ‘22 season. “Without it, people get too comfortable. I thrive being in uncomfortable positions.’’
