Former Navy SEAL flying from Fernandina Beach dies in plane crash in Georgia, according to reports

A decorated former Navy SEAL who was traveling from Fernandina Beach to Jesup, Ga., died in a plane crash on Wednesday morning, according to reports from multiple news outlets.

CBS station WTOC in Savannah reports that Dr. Howard Wasdin has been identified by authorities as the pilot of the plane.

The missing aircraft’s last known area was around the Manningtown, Ga. area, WTOC said. The plane was located just after 9:30 a.m. approximately a quarter mile from the William A. Zorn Airport in Jesup.

The Jesup Press Sentinel reports that Wadsin was traveling from Fernandina Beach to Jesup, where he had a chiropractic practice, Absolute Precision Chiropractic.

No other passengers were on the plane with Wasdin, but his dog was with him. The dog also did not survive the crash, the Press Sentinel reports.

In addition to his time on Seal Team Six, he was a best-selling author and motivational speaker.

Wasdin’s biography on his website details his time in combat:

“For his actions in “Operation Gothic Serpent” in Mogadishu, Somalia in 1993, he was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action against an enemy of the United States, and the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in action.  In that conflict he was wounded three times and nearly lost his right leg.”
