NFL Network personalities recently have been touring team training camp sites, and Steve Mariucci and Kimmi Chex visited the Chiefs on Saturday in St. Joseph.

Inclement weather forced the broadcasters indoors with the team at one point.

But before then, Mariucci and analyst Jason McCourty, who was in the studio, discussed the Chiefs defense heading into the 2023 season.

McCourty, the former Titans and Patriots cornerback, talked about the youthful Chiefs secondary and said he’s looking for those players to take the next step.

Mariucci, who coached the San Francisco 49ers from 1997-2002, then said fans of the NFL’s other 31 teams may not like his message.

“I got some bad news for people that don’t like the Chiefs,” Mariucci said. “This team is very young. They played 10 rookies in the Super Bowl, all right? Four of them started and they had six guys on defense that played over 250 snaps. Steve Spagnuolo is a heck of a defensive coordinator. They gotta get Chris Jones back. ....

George Karlaftis is a beast. He’ll start and (Trent) McDuffie and Jalen Watson and Josh Williams and (Bryan) Cook and these guys are young players that are hungry and they’re still under first contracts. That’s why they can afford the Patrick Mahomes, because they have a lot of young players on their first contract. And this is a young Super Bowl winning team. Look out league.”
