Former Ohio State basketball guard Duane Washington Jr. signs with Phoenix Suns

Former Ohio State basketball guard Duane Washington Jr. is on his way to Phoenix.

After being waived by the Indiana Pacers on July 14, Washington signed a two-way contract with the Phoenix Suns.

Washington was one of four players waived by the Pacers in an attempt to make a max offer for Suns center Deandre Ayton.

Washington was not selected in the 2021 NBA draft, but still find a way to contribute, averaging 9.9 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 20.2 minutes per game coming off the bench during his rookie year. He shot 40.5% from the field and 37.7% from 3-point range.

In his final season at Ohio State, Washington averaged 16.4 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game, shooting 45.8% from the field and 37.4% from 3.

Washington was the first player Ohio State coach Chris Holtmann recruited with the Buckeyes to sign an NBA contract, finishing his college career with 11.4 points and 2.9 rebounds per game.

The former Ohio State guard was named a third-team All-Big Ten member in 2020-21.  

Washington is currently one of seven Ohio State players in the NBA, along with Keita Bates-Diop and Malaki Branham on the San Antonio Spurs, Mike Conley on the Utah Jazz, D'Angelo Russell on the Minnesota Timberwolves, Jae'Sean Tate on the Houston Rockets and E.J. Liddell on the New Orleans Pelicans.
